News on Line 5
This is a critical moment! If we care about water and habitat we side with the Bad River Band and virtually all Wisconsin and Michigan tribes. Bad River Band prepares to challenge Army Corps of Engineers’ Line 5 reroute permit.
Enbridge is known for its repeated spills, failure to monitor, and inadequate reporting of pipeline failures.
And in the national news: Is Congress trampling on state laws protecting property rights against pipelines?
Learn more about Line 5 on our upcoming Weaving the Web event
There's a new day for our monthly Weaving the Web - It will be on the first TUESDAY of each month - Join us at noon to 1 pm on Tuesday June 3rd - and talk about LINE 5 with board members Mary Kay, Tynnetta, Shazhad and others. Contact WNPJ Network Coordinator at office@wnpj.org

Saturday, 31 May - 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Memorial Union on UW-Madison Campus, 800 Langdon St.
This gathering will bring together many groups, causes, strategies, and dreams so that together we can continue to figure out the steps of our unity plan.
So many of us are hungry for a united and sustainable approach. Now is our time - our time to take turns, to co-create, and to make sure that nobody is left out.
Info? - call 608-630-3633 or use this link: tinyurl.com/BU-Opportunities .
The people of Earth are under attack by militaristic oligarchies including the U.S. Government. Voices opposed to fascist oppression and genocide are being illegally imprisoned. Our democracy is eroding. Essential programs for people and our world are being severely cut while billionaires get more tax breaks. Our world is collapsing and many are dying at the hands of violent oppression and senseless war. Now is the time for all who stand for the protection of PEOPLE, PEACE, & OUR PLANET to unite and organize. Please join these endorsing partners and help create OUR next unity gathering.
Call 608-630-3633 to add your group’s logo!

5/27 @ 11:30am-12:00pm: Weekly Vigil for Peace with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa. At the corner of Monroe St and Edgewood Ave. near Edgewood High School. Details here. opjustice@sinsinawa.org
Contact Info: dsamadison@gmail.com Reserve for the zoom link.
5/27 @ 10:00am: WISDOM will join with Citizen Action of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Public Education Network and others to demand a State Budget that meets Wisconsin's needs and the priorities of Wisconsinites. Meet at the Capitol.
Wisconsin needs a budget that:
Closes the Green Bay Correctional Institution WITHOUT building a new prison;
Expands BadgerCare (while saving Wisconsin taxpayers $1.5 billion!)
Properly funds Public Schools, especially Special Education.
Governor Evers needs to make clear that he will veto any budget that doesn't meet at least these three criteria. We will gather at the Capitol at 10:00 AM to prepare, and to visit our legislators. At 2:30 PM, we will rally and let Governor Evers know we will stand behind him if he stands up for our shared priorities.
To attend the Capitol Lobby Day, please register here.
There is no cost for the event, and lunch will be provided. Buses will be available from Milwaukee, LaCrosse and Eau Claire. Ride sharing is being arranged from Green Bay, and Wausau. Contact: office@wisdomwisconsin.org
5/29 @ 4:15pm-5:45pm: Vigil for Palestine & Beyond. Meet at the southeast corner of Williamson & Blair Streets. Stand in Witness at the end of the work day. Join in sorrow and solidarity as we continue to acknowledge Palestinian suffering and the suffering of so many at the hands of what MLK called “the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism and militarism” that are driving US policy worldwide and at home. “Democracy-destroying forces thrive off militarism. We have to resist both.” - Norman Solomon. Bring a sign, your rage, your broken heart, and your determination to not be silent. World Beyond War – Madison. warabolition@gmail.com
5/29 @ 6:30pm-8:00pm: Power Mapping 101 with Democratic Socialists of America – Madison. At the Social Justice Center 1202 Williamson. At our Chapter Convention on March 15, 2025, Madison Area DSA passed a resolution called "Doing Politics in Public: Power Mapping, Popular Democracy, and a Plan for a People’s Platform". As part of this resolution, the chapter will take on a research project to "power map" Madison with the goal of understanding who holds power in our city and how we can seize it to win a socialist future for Madison.
In this first meeting for the project, we will learn what power mapping is and how to do it, and do some initial brainstorming about who to include in our power map. Reserve your spot here.
5/29 @ 7:00pm-8:00pm: Gaza and the West Bank: A Struggle for Survival Amid Genocide with Rev. Khader el-Yateem. At the Midvale Lutheran Church 4329 Tokay Blvd. Israel’s extreme violence in Gaza and the West Bank is uprooting entire communities, destroying homes, displacing civilians, many of them children, and depriving inhabitants of food, water, shelter and medical care. This violence is putting the continued existence of the entire Gazan people at risk and making each day a struggle for their survival. The question is no longer when peace will come, but whether the people of Gaza and the West Bank will survive long enough to see it. CO-SPONSORS: Interfaith Peace Working Group & South-Central Synod of Wisconsin, ELCA
5/30 @ 12:00pm-1:00pm: Madison Weekly Vigil in support of Palestine. Meets near the entrance to the Memorial Library across from the Catholic student center. Signs not provided. Contact joel.garb@gmail.com

5/31 @ 9:30am: Save Medicaid, Save BadgerCare Rally! Meet at the Capitol. One in five Wisconsinites rely on BadgerCare and other Medicaid programs for life-saving healthcare. Republicans in Congress want to cut federal Medicaid funding, increase work requirements and other eligibility hurdles, and make it harder for Wisconsinites to access the services they need. We are calling on our state government to ensure no Wisconsinite loses access to Medicaid by including Medicaid Expansion in the 2025-2026 state budget, and refusing any new eligibility requirements. For more info, visit here.

5/27 @ 7:00pm: Webinar: When Orwell Goes to War: Jim Carrier on Nuclear Weapons. Sponsored by Interfaith Peace Working Group The U.S. has launched a 30-year, $1.7 trillion program to completely replace and upgrade its nuclear defense system, the so-called “triad” of land, air and sea weapons. This project has received very little news coverage, but it will involve new nuclear warheads and bombs, and new missiles, airplanes and submarines to deliver them.
In this online Zoom presentation, Jim Carrier will describe the history of its launch under President Obama—ironically after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and calling for an end to nuclear weapons. Carrier has titled this presentation as such because the language used to describe it, chiefly the word “deterrence,” masks the effort to maintain U.S. nuclear dominance that has lasted 80 years. Carrier has traveled throughout the U.S. nuclear complex and will be speaking just three days after returning from Nagasaki where he will be interviewing Hibakusha (bomb-affected people). This Zoom presentation is free but registration is required. REGISTER

5/29 @ 5:30pm-6:30: Webinar: Surviving the World: finding queer resiliency in art and nature. Hosted by Fair Wisconsin and led by artist Rhea Ewing. REGISTER
It has been a tough few months, and even that is an understatement. An onslaught of anti-LGBTQ+ - and specifically anti-trans - actions from our federal administration, angry rhetoric from the White House, anti-trans bills receiving marathon hearings at our own state capitol… our community is facing so much hostility right now. And as we do, we must remember that our LGBTQ+ community has faced hostile governments before, and we are still here fighting for queer liberation because we know how to come together in community to connect and build together.info@fairwisconsin.com
