The Week of June 10th - WNPJ member groups - statewide Events and Action Alerts.

PETITION TO SIGN: Wisconsin Transit Riders Alliance advocates for public transit in Wisconsin. https://witransitriders.org/

We're working on a petition for Governor Evers to proclaim Sept. 30 – Oct. 6, 2024 A Week Without Driving . Watch for updates! https://americawalks.org/campaigns/week-without-driving/

If you can drive or afford a car, you may not understand what it’s like to rely on walking, rolling, transit and asking for rides. But for nearly a third of people living in Wisconsin – people with disabilities, young people, seniors, people who can’t afford cars or gas or prefer not to drive – this is our every day. A Week Without Driving is a challenge to learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that nondrivers face in hopes of creating more accessible communities for all. WWD is a new challenge put on by America Walks that we are promoting. Wisconsinites could come together to advocate for more transportation options in their local communities. Please sign our petition.YOU CAN FIND US ON FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/groups/189958811633915/

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is organizing around an agenda to expand democracy to all people and end the crisis of death by poverty and low-wealth, which kills 295,000 people each year. We are crying loudly that somebody is hurting our people, and we won’t be silent anymore.

Our votes are not a show of support but are our demands! We demand a 3rd Reconstruction in this country and on June 29th at 10am we will once again return to Pennsylvania Ave and 3rd Street NW in Washington, DC for the Mass Poor People’s and Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls to ensure that our elected leaders in Washington hear us clearl

At the Wisconsin PPC, we know that the trip to D.C. may be more than folks can commit to but we encourage you to tune in to the livestream, if you are able and consider gathering to watch this amazing non-violent action in community! Here is Dena Eakles statement in Ashland June 4th - about Line 5 - to the US Army Corps re: Enbridge:

There comes a time when clear thinking people must admit that the course of exploitation and usury is no longer viable. And when those people come to that conclusion, it's vital they ensure a change of course that is just, equitable and sound. Make no mistake that's why many of us are here or writing to you - and our resistance is growing and will continue to grow.

Both the current Line 5 and the proposed Line 5 expansion pose potential threats to drinking water and ecosystems. Both violate tribal rights. Line 5 is operating nearly 20 years past its lifespan. And we know, the Great Lakes hold 95 percent of the surface freshwater in the United States. A pipeline breach will be catastrophic.

These facts alone should be enough to end the discussion and the existence of Line 5 and its reroute. But too many of us still believe the propaganda of the oil industry and are frightened about a change of course.

You, (the U.S. Army Corp). have an enormous responsibility: to provide stop gap measures and allow clear thinking to prevail. By ordering a federal Environmental Impact Statement for all portions of Line 5 within your jurisdiction, you can educate the public on the true risks of the pipeline.

By reviewing Enbridge’s record of misrepresenting risks, violating permits, spilling oil, and covering up environmental damage you can counter the lack of oversight and enforcement that has allowed injustices to prevail.

You have the opportunity and the responsibility to reverse the lack of knowledge that has led to this needless destruction of our environment.

Line 5 threatens the entire region. Shutting down Line 5 would create the opportunity for all of us to justly transition to safer, more sustainable energy.

As I said before our resistance is growing and will continue to grow.

Please help us. Thank you.   Dena.eakles@gmail.com  Contact for Echo Valley Hope
