Is Coal Tar Pavement Sealant Banned in Your Wisconsin Community? Action Alert from CWAC:
Take actions to protect our children from PAH toxins. We sent action letters to 50 area towns and villages. Ask us if a letter was sent to your municipality.
The WI state legislature is not going to act to protect citizens from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found in coal tar pavement sealants. So, we need to get back to passing local bans to protect our families, friends, and environment. Therefore, local municipalities passed a ban such as Green Bay, De Pere, Manitowoc, and other lakeshore communities. The Town Gibraltar recently based an ordinance ban which you can read about here as well as the Town of Jacksonport.
CWAC can help with a ten-minute presentation to your city or town government or related committees. CWAC is available to give presentations on this concern virtually or in-person. Click this link for a video presentation on the topic.

About the Book Thriving In A Public School is a collection of stories spanning two decades of teaching and learning at Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin. Those years were spent organizing students to take action in profound ways, action that changed not only the course of their lives, but the culture of their school and their communities. Learning is a political act, and it does not take place in a vacuum, but rather is part of a social construct. By engaging in activism, the students at Horlick High developed a political understanding of the obstacles to their success and found pathways to affect change. Ultimately, Thriving In A Public School is a positive force, steeped in optimism and hope, propelled forward by the strength of the youth.

8/21 @ 5:30pm: Watch party of the film, "Inhabitants: Indigenous Perspectives on Restoring Our World," In the spirit of our creation care initiatives and to honor the many gifts Indigenous people bring to our lands, Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes will be hosting this in-person event at 320 County Road K, in Founders Hall. This is open to the public. For millennia Native Americans successfully stewarded and shaped their landscapes, but centuries of colonization have disrupted their ability to maintain their traditional land management practices. From deserts, coastlines, forests, mountains, and prairies, Native communities across the US are restoring their ancient relationships with the land. The five stories include sustaining traditions of Hopi dryland farming in Arizona; restoring buffalo to the Blackfeet reservation in Montana; maintaining sustainable forestry on the Menominee reservation in Wisconsin; reviving native food forests in Hawaii; and returning prescribed fire to the landscape by the Karuk Tribe of California. As the climate crisis escalates these time-tested practices of North America's original inhabitants are becoming increasingly essential in a rapidly changing world. Please register here. The Sisters of St Francis in Clinton have secured the right to show this film for free between the dates of August 14 through August 27. If you would like to watch this film, but are unable to attend the in-person watch party at the CSA Motherhouse, you can register to receive a link and view this film at your own convenience. After watching a selection from the film, our expert panelists will reflect on how this almost-30-year-old event can inform our response to ever-more-frequent climate disasters, from heat waves to hurricanes, even here in Madison, WI. Panelists include: John E. Peck of Family Farm Defenders; Lonette Sims and Dr. Howard Ehrman of the People’s Response Network; as well as contributions from Mississippi Rising.
