WNPJ + Weaving the Web on TUESDAY this week + Screening of No Other Land + Wear Orange to Prevent Gun Violence + June 14th rallies + other statewide events
********** *************************

There's a new day for our WNPJ monthly Weaving the Web - It will be held on the first TUESDAY of each month - Drop in for conversation!
On Tuesday, June 3rd, 12 noon, WNPJ Board members will be on the zoom call talking about Line #5....along with outstanding Attorney Connie Sue Martin, and many of our groups who have promoted the Bad River Documentary Film broadly.
Your Zoom Meeting Information:
Passcode: 797041
Updated information on Line #5
The Bad River Band is deeply concerned about the risks to their Wild Rice Bed, the largest on the Great Lakes. Since there are so many leaks and spills in Enbridge pipelines, one certainly thinks of nearby oil spills that spread. But earlier in the process one must also consider the consequences of construction-related damage while preparing nearby pipelines. There are the Kakagon-Bad River Sloughs and the crucial wetlands. And scientists like Dr. Brian Branfirerun testified May 13, 2025 to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Any of these could impact their own rice beds, their own food security, their ability to continue their cultural traditions and frankly possibly their very lives. The hearing was taped and is available at https://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/Enbridge_Line5-WI.
Bad River Band and many tribes now have their own Water Quality Standards. Fortunately, the Bad River Band has carefully studied and maintained their own Water Quality Standards under the guidance of Connie Sue Martin, nationally known for her legal work with Native Nations and the environment, has guided in areas of pollutants, water quantity and quality, hydrology, mineral content, water temperature, etc.
Connie Sue Martin also testified, reminding the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers that Enbridge's plan does not properly meet the Water Quality Standards that the Bad River Band has set for itself. It is not for the federal agencies to determine what the standards should be. It is the people on the ground, living there, that are best equipped to set standards for their land. Connie Sue has testified against the Line 5 Enbridge project. She said, The Bad River Band is "the expert” on water quality in the area, not U.S. government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), etc.
If we want to help the Bad River Band maintain good water, their wild rice and their habitat, then we can fill out and submit the form for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by June 13th. In so doing, we do know that protection of clean water, like in Lake Superior, we are helping to maintain clean water for our state and also it can be what is needed for our continent.

NO KINGS MARCH Saturday, June 14
In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. Learn more about NO KINGS.
