Once again we are witnessing horrible oversights and calculated errors that led to the 50-car train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
Once again humans, animals and the environment face unprecedented hazards and must fight for the truth and for the help they will need. It is reminiscent of ongoing efforts here in Wisconsin to clean up toxic waste and PFAS.
Since 1990, WNPJ member group CSWAB has been nationally known as an “effective guardian of the environment.”
Their ongoing effort to clean up the former Badger Army ammunitions plant has led to this recent RESOLUTION from January 26, 2023. The Badger Restoration Advisory Board calls on WDNR to expand environmental testing requirements for explosives and other contaminants and to “identify and enforce protective cleanup goals for all known and suspected contaminants including PFAS, mercury and asbestos.”
It is a study in tenacity and diligence. Thankfully there are people taking the time to unravel these man-made disasters and demand accountability.
Let us also learn to prevent them!
