Sandra Tamari of the Adalah Justice Project

Bridging between the United States and Palestine

As a Palestinian organization in the United States with a strong connection to organizing in Palestine, Adalah Justice Project connects people, campaigns and messaging in both contexts. Adalah Justice Project works to facilitate coordination and conversations between the US and Palestine. Partners in Palestine are seeking more information about movement work in the United States, not only on issues related to Palestinian rights, but also on other social justice movements, lessons learned from other organizations, and parallels between the two contexts. To fulfill this need for deeper understanding, AJP organizes webinars, convenings, and conversations to enable robust conversations between movement organizers in Palestine and the United States.

Every year, hundreds of Palestinian youth living under Israeli military occupation are arrested, interrogated, physically and psychologically abused, forced to sign confessions, and imprisoned in Israeli military facilities in violation of international humanitarian law. This brutality has been extensively documented by human rights monitors, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), B'tselem, and by the US State Department.

You can hear powerful testimony from Palestinian youth themselves, including one here.

Rep. Betsy McCollum introduced H.R. 2407 in 2020, a bill that prohibits US aid from paying for the Israel military's torture and abuse of Palestinian children. An amendment to the Leahy Act, it would prohibit US funding for child military detention in any country. We're waiting for reintroduction in 2021.
