Mon Feb 8 9:30 - 10 am Press Conference for "Running for Their Lives" - virtual. With the repeal of Wisconsin's Mask Mandate, the failure of our state legislature to protect us from COVID-19 is apparent. Nowhere is it MORE apparent than in the Wisconsin prison system. More than half of the current population of the Wisconsin prison system have contracted COVID-19, while 25 people have lost their lives - making theirs a death sentence. Two system survivors, Ramiah Whiteside & Kevin Cook, are running from Milwaukee to Madison to raise awareness of the devastation of COVID in our prisons. Please join them in support for their journey and learn more about their motivation.

Members of the press are invited to attend in person:

"We are running to bring AWARENESS to the desperate COVID situation within the Wisconsin prison system. They suffer in silence with nowhere to run, so we're running for their lives." - Ramiah Whiteside

Updated Thursday - Feb. 11th.

Ramiah Whiteside & Kevin Cook began their run from the WISDOM offices on Monday morning - a brisk 8 degree day in Milwaukee. They ran 20 miles on Monday, ending Day 1 in Waukesha County. The first day was full of obstacles; unshoveled sidewalks, frigid temperatures, and rush hour traffic, but they completed their course with NO complaints. Media coverage was particularly good on this day as well.

Day 2 began waiting for the Windchill Advisory to be lifted. The all clear came about 9:15 AM and Ramiah and Kevin took off from Waukesha, ending in Jefferson. The cold was brutal but the scenery and most people encountered along the way were wonderful.

How can you support Ramiah & Kevin in their Run for their Lives? Here are a few ways:

  • Join Ramiah and Kevin TONIGHT, Thursday, February 11 at 6:30 PM via Zoom for a chat about why they are doing this, why this is important to them & what they hope to accomplish with it. REGISTER HERE
  • Support the run financially. Ramiah and Kevin need your help covering the cost of their running gear, lodging, gas, meals, etc. For contributions of $15 to $29 you will receive a T-shirt, and for contributions of $30+ you will receive a hoodie. DONATE HERE
  • Join Ramiah & Kevin in Madison on Friday, February 12 at 10:00 AM at the State Capitol as they cross the finish line! They will then hold a press conference at 11:00 AM in the Hilton Hotel Madison.
