Keynote speaker: TERENCE BLACKBURN is currently a regional representative of the UNA and lives in Lansing, Michigan. He’s had a lifetime of legal and law professor experience around the world, with focus on the rule of law.
United Nations Association of Greater Milwaukee Awards will be presented to:
Global Citizens: Will Allen, Phil Blank, Joan Bleidorn
Global Educator: Janet Nortrom
Terence Blackburn is the current chair of the national Education Committee of UNA-USA and one of three Regional Representatives from the Great Lakes Region to the National Council of UNA-USA. He is a member of the Greater Lansing Michigan UNA-USA.
Terence is the former Dean of Michigan State University College of Law, and the Founding Dean of the Seton Hall School of Diplomacy and International Relations in New Jersey and the KIMEP University School of Law in Almaty Kazakhstan. He has also served in Egypt, Morocco and China. Earlier in his career he was a civil rights lawyer and a corporate lawyer.
“We all tend to think about the United Nations and its specialized agencies as accomplishing important work in OTHER countries – combating hunger, peace keeping, fighting disease, refugee relief and so on.
However, the work of the UN also impacts our daily lives in ways that perhaps we are not even aware. This talk will explore how the work of the UN directly affects and improves the lives of each of us within the United States – from our international mail and telecommunications, to trade, to health, and even to the food we eat.”
