Action Alert 1: Travel to School of Americas in November
Background: 11/20/14 - 11/23/14.   For 25 years, thousands of protesters have gathered nonviolently on Ft. Benning Rd, just outside Fort Benning located in Columbus, GA to demand the closing of what was once called the School of the Americas - now renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) - a Defense Department program that brings Latin American soldiers to the U.S. for military training (supported with U.S. tax dollars). "SOA Watch" calls for the closure of the institute which exports the militarization of police, perpetuates coups, torture and human rights abuses in the face of social and political problems. Organizers of SOA Watch in Milwaukee are organizing travel to SOA this November.
Take Action: Interested in joining us for the November Vigil Nov. 20th - 23rd At Ft. Benning, GA? Fill out and return THIS form.

Action Alert 2: Statewide Day of Action for Tuition Equity for Undocumented Students.
Background: Voces de la Frontera asks for all to join them Thursday, October 9th in Milwaukee, Racine, UW-Whitewater and other locations for a 'Statewide Day of Action -  Calls on Walker and Burke to Support Tuition Equity for Undocumented Students'. This day of action is supported by the members of Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES), the student arm of Voces de la Frontera. Wisconsin needs tuition equality because everyone deserves an equal shot at getting an education.

Schools hosting events include South Division High School, Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School, Riverside University High School, and students from UW-Milwaukee and MATC. In Racine, Park High School, Horlick High School, and Case High School will host a rally. YES students at UW-Whitewater will rally also.

The rally in Milwaukee is set for Thursday, October 9th, at 4:15pm at  South Division High School front lawn, 115 S. Lapham Blvd.

For more information on the other statewide rallies, contact: Francisca E. Meraz, Voces de la Frontera/YES, (414) 639-0782, meraz.kika@gmail.com  or Sean Orr, Voces de la Frontera/YES, (414) 587-7160, seanorr.voces@gmail.com

Action Alert 3: Support our member group PNHP - to take UW-Madison medical students to their national event
Background: Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) is holding the Annual Meeting & Leadership Training in New Orleans this year and we have a number of UW-Madison medical students who want to attend. These students are fired up and ready to fight for single-payer healthcare in the U.S.  While our local chapter is able to help with some of the costs, we can't cover everyone. Our goal is to raise $2000 for their trip costs. Please consider supporting this effort with a large or small donation. Every little bit helps! With your help, we can prepare next generation of PNHP physicians to get the training and knowledge they need to make universal healthcare a reality in America!

The conference will be an opportunity for you to hear from and talk with Christian, Muslim, Jewish and secular leaders, scholars and activists about the history of and current developments in Palestine/Israel, the U.S. role, and what it requires from us. Plenary sessions and interactive workshops will examine the situation on the ground and explore ways that we can effectively work for a just peace.  Distinguished speakers and workshop leaders will address the conflict from theological, political, economic and historic perspectives and invite us to be part of creative, non-violent responses.
