Students Should Be Taught To Question Recruiters

Dear Editor: Do the Madison schools discuss with students the issues raised by the protesters of military ads on sports scoreboards?
Why advertising at all? And why does the federal No Child Left Behind law prescribe that information be provided to the military recruiters when others are not so favored?
How are students taught to question the offers of advertisers who use language to persuade with words that are not reasonable?
Are the students encouraged to ask questions of the recruiters about just and unjust wars? How about killing folks you don't know, many of them women and children?
How do young people think about such things?
Are the schools doing what is best for students?
Advertising is very questionable!
