The Ninth Annual Fighting Bob Fest - Baraboo
The Ninth Annual Fighting Bob Fest will be held on September 11, 2010, at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo.
9/11 is the date and we have a great program and a new plan. I can't help but compare our positive gathering to those "tea baggers" with a scowl and an attitude.
This will be our best Fighting Bob Fest and it comes at the low point in our democracy largely because of two words: "Citizens United."
The theft of our democracy by the "Scalia Five" must not stand. If it does, our democracy will die.
Imagine that the Court is is telling us that corporations are "people" with First Amendment rights! Utter nonsense!
What do we do? What will you do?
Step one: pre-register for Bob Fest and please send $25 to defray the costs. Remember: no fee to enter but we sure do need and appreciate your contribution.
Good news: The Evjue Foundation has once again contributed $10,000. Now we must raise the rest. Our experiment with Bob Fest North was a success, and I'm confident we can do more next year.
So get your bus or car pool organized for the trip to Baraboo, get ready to have fun while we engage you in serious debate, and remember: the Tea Party has tea bags – we have ideas!
The theme: "What Will You Do?"
We have asked our speakers to share their thoughts on the best response to Citizens United – Now we ask for yours. Is it a constitutional amendment?
We are thinking about renewing the People's Legislature; a caravan around the state; regular radio programming streamed throughout the state.
Jim Hightower, Tammy Baldwin, Russ Feingold, Thom Hartmann, Cal Nurses' Donna Smith, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, John Nichols, McCabe, Palast, and Couper – action is required. Point the way and we will start the parade.
Last year you told us that you wanted more action – we listened.
Friday night kick-off at the Barrymore Theater in Madison 7:00-10:00; Saturday at our usual place – Sauk County Fairgrounds.
Like it or not, the media will focus on our attendance. Let's make it once again the biggest political meeting in the Midwest. See you in Baraboo!
