Dear Editor: Kathleen Falk is extremely well positioned to win the Democratic primary for Attorney General and go on to victory in November because her progressive roots are deep and her achievements are unmatched:
As public intervenor for 12 years and during her career with the Environmental Decade, she won landmark cases in environmental law and citizen advocacy, standing up for citizens against powerful special interests. In fact, the Public Intervenor's Office was so effective, Gov. Tommy Thompson abolished it.
As Dane County executive, she's fought sprawl, funded initiatives that move families from poverty to work, rallied with striking Tyson workers, put domestic partner benefits in county contracts and stopped conservatives who would privatize county jobs.
Falk has always worked tirelessly to elect other progressives to office, including helping to elect a progressive majority to the Dane County Board.
Falk continues to speak out forcefully against the ban on civil unions and marriage, rally with Latinos against the hateful immigration bill and she strongly supported the referendum to bring our troops home.
Falk has been especially impressive as a leader on innovative and effective jail diversion initiatives that hold non-violent offenders accountable and mandate treatment to stop the destructive cycle of addiction. We need her leadership, statewide, to create and initiate jail diversion programs that help turn lives around.
Falk's credentials as an environmentalist, as an advocate for citizens against special interests, as a friend of working families and as a fighter for women's rights have earned her an impressive and growing list of endorsements.
I have been privileged to work with Kathleen Falk both during my time as a Dane County supervisor and as a state legislator. I can attest that she brings an outstanding combination of intelligence, integrity and an unmatched record of accomplishment on issues progressives care about deeply. Her vision of what the Attorney General's Office can do -- and can do better -- inspires voters across Wisconsin and throughout Dane County. She will be our Democratic nominee and Wisconsin's next attorney general.
