Since Sept. 11, 2001, every unit in the Wisconsin National Guard has deployed Soldiers and Airmen in support of the global war on terrorism. There are currently about 3,700 Guard members on active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and several other places around the world.
According to a phone conversation with Maj. Guthrie on Oct. 13th, 2009, contact info here: http://dma.wi.gov/dma/news/press.asp, there have been more than 10,000 members of the Wisconsin National Guard deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas in support of the Global War on Terror. Over 50% have deployed more than one time. Specifics of the numbers is hard to pin down she said and wouldn't comment further. The injured during these deployments is controlled by the DoD since they are in federal service and we would probably need a FOIA request to get the info and a few months if not longer to wait for them to sit on it. There are no statistics on mental health since it is private information and only the health care professionals and the servicemembers medical records would have that. She mentioned pre-mobilization and post-mobilization clases that are given to guard members with post-mob classes given 30, 60, and 90 days after deployment with varying levels of family involvement. She was not very helpful in describing the services but insisted that there was mandatory training, most likely a powerpoint presentation.
