A national non-profit organization that addresses the issue of commercialism in our public schools. The Center provides support to students, parents, teachers and other concerned citizens organizing across the U.S. to keep their schools commercial-free and community-controlled. We facilitate leadership development and democratic participation at the local level.
Education for the People
A grassroots, community-based advocacy organization head quartered in Milwaukee, WI. We are a growing political force that addresses issues that have both a local and national impact. We directly oppose corporate attempts to privatize, dismantle, and take over the public's educational system. We develop and promote policies, research, and action that improve educational quality for communities of color and the poor. Simply put, Education For The People! commits itself to dignified public education for all.
Milwaukee Principles for Corporate Involvement in the Schools
School-business relationships based on sound principles can contribute to high quality education. However, compulsory attendance confers on educators an obligation to protect the welfare of their students and the integrity of the learning environment. Therefore, when working together, schools and businesses must ensure that educational values are not distorted in the process.
