MADISON (WKOW) - There is again this weekend a reminder about the cost and sacrifice of war.
The group, Veterans for Peace lined the side of speedway road near Forest Hill Cemetery with 5,000 tombstones.
Each represents an American life lost fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan since the 9/11 attacks.
Ninety-eight of them are marked with Wisconsin flags, representing Wisconsin's men and women to lose their lives in the wars.
"We just want to give people an accurate picture of the numbers involved. When you just hear the phrase 5,000 troops, you maybe think of other ways," said co-organizer Richard Chamberlin.
Veterans for Peace has put the display together the last two years.
The group is holding a rally in James Madison Park on Memorial Day in which members will read aloud the names of Wisconsin's lost soldiers.
