Spotlight on a WNPJ member group: WILPF

History: The Madison Branch of WILPF was founded in 1922. Each decade since, the women of WILPF have fought tirelessly for the peace and freedom of our communities.

Early work included a series of radio programs on various issues on WIBA during the 1930s. In 1933, the Madison and Milwaukee branches succeeded together making ROTC optional at the University. In 1938, after years of effort by all the U.S. branches and cooperation with other groups, a prime success was the passage of the anti-lynching law.

Two upcoming events: Mon Feb 15, 2021  7 - 8:30 pm - WILPF Study on Abolition - Session #2 "The Prisons Industrial Complex"  - via zoom. We will be meetings on the 3rd Monday of the month through June. We will be using the study group guide from the Abolitionist Journal https://abolitionjournal.org/  which provides readings, podcasts, and videos - all for free.  Their study guide is set up to be completed in 6 weeks, but we are doing this over the course of 6 months, starting Jan 18th, to provide more time to engage with the material. We ask that each participant commits to completing at least one of the activities in each topic area so that we are able to have a rich and meaningful discussion.   The facilitators for this group will be Stefania Sani (sanistefania@gmail.com ) and Carol Wilson (carol.wilson.622@gmail.com ).  If you have specific questions about this study group, you may email them directly. We look forward to having you join us on this journey!  Please R.S.V.P. to wilpfmadison@gmail.com  so that you are provided with the Zoom link.
