WILPF of Madison Sponsors a 6-Month Study on Abolition - every third Monday starting Jan 18

Event Dates:

Mon Jan 18  7 - 8:30 pm - WILPF of Madison Sponsors a 6-Month Study on Abolition

Abolition is about presence, not absence. It’s about building life-affirming institutions. Please join us for a 6-month study of Abolition.  We will be meeting via Zoom on the 3rd Monday of each month. We will be using the study group guide from the Abolitionist Journal which provides readings, podcasts, and videos – all for free.  Their study guide is set up to be completed in 6 weeks, but we are doing this over the course of 6 months to provide more time to engage with the material.

  • Week one: Welcome and Introductions. Prisons and Policing in the U.S. as a History of anti-Blackness
  • Week two: The Prison Industrial Complex
  • Week three: Policing and Imprisonment as Racial Violence
  • Week four: Reformist Reforms vs. Abolitionist Steps
  • Week five:  Feminist, Queer and Trans Abolitionism
  • Week six: Abolitionist Alternatives

We ask that each participant commits to completing at least one of the activities in each topic area so that we are able to have a rich and meaningful discussion.  For our first meeting, we ask that you review the materials under the Welcome and Introduction, in addition to doing at least one activity under Week 1. The facilitators for this group will be Stefania Sani (sanistefania@gmail.com ) and Carol Wilson (carol.wilson.622@gmail.com ).  If you have specific questions about the study group, you may email them directly. We look forward to having you join us on this journey!  Please R.S.V.P. to wilpfmadison@gmail.com  for a Zoom link.
