Event Dates:
Friends of Rainbow Railroad Support LGBT Chechen Refugees
Thursday, July 13th, 5:30-7:30pm
Mendota Lake House B&B
704 East Gorham St
In response to a growing wave of violence and persecution of gay men in Chechnya, Dane County LGBTQ community members have scheduled a fundraiser for Rainbow Railroad, a Canadian human rights project.
The Friends of Rainbow Railroad is a local group of people dedicated to raising funds to help Chechen refugees escape imprisonment, torture and death supported by the government of Chechnya.
The event will be hosted by OutReach LGBT Community Center. Gifts are fully tax-deductible. All proceeds of the event will be granted to Rainbow Railroad.

We are very pleased to announce that we will be joined by Dr. Irina Shevelenko at this event. Dr. Shevelenko is a professor of Russian at the UW-Madison and a native of St. Petersburg. As an expert on Russia, as well as a lesbian mother, she is appalled by atrocities against gay people in Chechnya which Russian authorities refuse to properly investigate and which local Chechen authorities bluntly deny, despite overwhelming evidence. She will speak briefly on these subjects.
