Plowshare Awards 2017 Peacebuilder Awards
Plowshare Fair Trade Marketplace and Education for Peace Center located on Main Street in Waukesha proudly awarded the 4th annual Kate Delaney Jolin Peacebuilder Awards on Friday, March 10, at Plowshare's 28th Anniversary Celebration held in the Carroll University Ballroom.
The individual award recipient was Iva Richards, nominated by Mark Blackman for her involvement with Ventures in People (Helping Haitians Help Themselves), SOPHIA, and Ascension Lutheran Church’s refugee resettlement and Mission Outreach programs.
The Peacebuilder Group award was presented to The Women’s Center for their mission over the past 40 years to provide safety, shelter, and support to women and their families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse, and to facilitate their development. Dave Helling and Bonnie Birk nominated The Women's Center for this honor.
A special tribute to remember Sally Jo Michalko, our Board President who passed away on November 20, 2016, was shared by her friend, Diane Voit. The Vintage Mix barbershop quartet honored Sally by singing two of her favorite songs: Amazing Grace and Accentuate the Positive. Chef Moe prepared a special ethnic buffet to honor Sally as well. The Plowshare Annual Volunteer Recognition Award was named in Sally's memory. The first recipient of this award was Ron Spitz for his faithful assistance in setting up and taking down the Waukesha Farmers' Market booth each week of the 2016 season.
