HAVE YOUR
SAY...
Eight
days ahead of the May 1st mass march, today's Shepherd Express newspaper is
bringing the local story of raids and deportations to a wide audience. Many
readers will be sympathetic, but whenever immigration issues make the news, the
bigots often take over the online comments columns.
Debate is also underway in the
Journal Sentinel about the march.
There has never been a better time to
have your
say...

It's Happening Here
Immigration raids in homes, on the street
"It
sounds like something that happens in Baghdad or 1980s El Salvador- individuals
being taken from their homes, never to return again.
But
it isn't happening a world away in a war zone or under a brutal regime. It's
happening in Milwaukee, and the targets are immigrants who are not in the United
States legally." [More]

Milwaukee
Journal Sentinel
Sparked by the
May 1st march, a debate is underway in the letters pages of the Journal
Sentinel. After a positive contribution on Monday, the tone
changed today:
"In response to the April 21 article, " 'A Day
Without Latinos' march set": I have no sympathy for those here illegally. Where
has common sense gone? American immigration laws were broken when they came into
the country, and now because they didn't get caught, they want a free pass to
stay."
"There were great errors in the recent immigration bill that was
defeated, and as a taxpayer I am glad for its defeat. I am also glad for the
enforcement of our immigration laws of late, because it is long overdue. This
"illegal pride" is an insult to those who come here legally and a huge social
services drain on legal citizen taxpayers. Illegals do not pay taxes because
employers hire them as ghost employees to help their bottom
line." What's
your take?
