Precious Water Needs Protecting

Dear Editor: I write to salute you for publishing "On tap: water pricing" in the April 1 edition!
Back in the '40s and '50s, my family would ride around the hills of Sauk County and see here and there a pipe stuck in the ground along the roadway with a tin cup hanging on it so the passers-by could have a cooling drink of spring water. Now we are reading reports of diminishing groundwater supplies around the world - with the concomitant suggestion that the next major wars are likely to be fought over water. It is very clear that we must do all we can to be thoughtful and conserving in our use of this precious gift.
I salute the Water Utility Board members for their thoughtful research and planning, and urge the City Council to support their proposals.
