Speakers - DAN MASTERPOLE, Chippewa County Conservationist and Dept. Director of the Chippewa County, Wisconsin, Dept. of Land Conservation & Forest Management; KATHY DENNING, doctoral candidate in the Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the Univ. of Kansas; and KATIE HIMANGA, a Certified Forester and Arborist from Lake City, MN.

Speaker, Dan Masterpole, is the County Conservationist and the Dept. Director of the Chippewa County, Wisconsin, Department of Land Conservation & Forest Management, holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Minnesota State University-Mankato, and graduate degrees in Water Resources Management and Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

 Our keynote speaker, Katherine Denning, is from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas and a doctoral aspirant in ecology and evolutionary biology, and her research interests include plant community ecology, plant-pollinator interactions, evolutionary ecology, and tall grass prairie conservation.

Speaker, Katie Himanga, is a Certified Forester and Arborist from Lake City, MN. She is/was on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Minnesota DNR Silica Sand Rulemaking Advisory Panel, has served on the Advisory Task Force appointed to work with the Office of Energy Security on the scope of the environmental review for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant project, and is a former Natural Resource Tech for the Minnesota DNR and Senior Lab Tech at the University of MN Dept. of Plant Pathology.

Our speakers will be introduced by Dave Carlson.  Dave is known from his long running  TV series, "Northland Adventures" and  "Northland Outdoors." Dave has received many awards for his conservation journalism.

Dave will also moderate a period of questions and answers.

This year’s program will be a science-based course on the pros and cons of prairie, forest, and farmland
reclamation and restoration.
