Wisconsin Peace Events Marking the Second Anniversary of the Iraq War

The second anniversary of the beginning of the war on Iraq will be on March 19-20. Groups across the U.S. are planning events for that weekend; many are listed on United for Peace and Justice's website at www.unitedforpeace.org In the last 2 years, we know how hard the peace and justice groups in Wisconsin have been working to oppose the war and to bring our troops home. Some of our WNPJ member organizations are planning vigils and actions for March 19-20. WNPJ wants to support these actions and will be posting them on our website for networking purposes. We will also issue a press release in early March to focus attention on the amount of anti-war activism that is happening all around our state.

If the people lead, the leaders will follow

We have heard from several groups that intend to do actions that week. Here are the details on two:

  • Peace Action in Milwaukee plans a large rally followed by a march at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 19th at O'Donnell Park Plaza near the sunburst. The theme will be End the War - Save Our Soldiers - Bring Them Home. They also plan vigils at recruiting stations in coordination with a national campaign launching in March by Iraq Pledge of Resistance in conjunction with United for Peace and Justice.
For more information on the efforts, please see: www.peacepledge.org/resist

  • The Fox Valley Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Fox Valley Peace Coalition are going to sponsor an outdoor peace rally on Saturday, March 19, 11:00 to 12:00, on the corner of College Ave. and Appleton St. in Appleton, followed by an indoor program with lots of music and chances for networking.
