September 2006 Opening of New Fair Trade Store "JustGoods" - Rockford, IL.

201 Seventh Street. Open on Tuesdays - Saturdays, 10 am - 6 pm

Volunteers staff the store, in conjunction with Rockford peace & Justice Action Committee. It's the first of its kind in the Rockford area. One and a-half tons of fair traded gift items were received from many fair trade outlets, including SERRV, and Ten Thousand Villages, a mission outreach of the Mennonite Church.

"We are bringing in wonderful gifts, arts and crafts from around the world. The items come from fair trade outlets; they pay worldwide producers a fair and decent wage" says Michael Kearney, president of JustGoods board, a volunteer, and a retired school teacher. "Fair trade is consumerism with a conscience, and is the wave of the future, especially for people concerned about working conditions, the environment and social justice."

"This is a nonprofit store, and proceeds will be used for the betterment of the neighborhood as well as for the producers of the goods we sell," says Mr. Stanley Campbell, contact for WNPJ member group. Inquiries: Please call (815) 964-7111 or the store number 815-965-8903. or e-mail peaceman50@aol.com.
